Bitcoin is the only true cryptocurrency in the eye of Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino
Ardoino argues that Bitcoin stands out from the crowd of over 14,000 cryptocurrencies because it’s the only decentralized one. In other words, according to Ardoino, Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s not controlled by a single entity or group.
Ardoino made this claim during an interview on June 13 at the Bitcoin-only conference, BTC Prague. He stated that Bitcoin is the only decentralized currency.
“Bitcoin is the only example of a currency that is only ruled by math that basically cannot be changed.”
The popular stablecoin CEO argues that Bitcoin is the most decentralized cryptocurrency because, unlike others, it doesn’t have a central group making changes. He points out that other cryptocurrencies often have development teams that regularly update software, adjust monetary policies, and influence inflation or deflation. This, according to Ardoino, indicates a more centralized structure.
Tether CEO On Tether & Meme Coins
Ardoino dives into Bitcoin’s unique characteristics. With a capped supply of 21 million and predictable halving events, Bitcoin, in his view, embodies true decentralization. It’s a “certainty,” he emphasizes, like a constantly ticking clock. When it comes to unstoppable and decentralized projects, he argues, “there is only Bitcoin” (everyone throws around the term “decentralized,” he adds).
The interview reveals Ardoino’s awareness of potential controversy surrounding his stance on Bitcoin’s exclusive claim to decentralization. He even admits Tether, in contrast to Bitcoin, is openly centralized. Finally, he throws some shade on the booming memecoin industry, stating his fondness for memes but not memecoins themselves. Bitcoin and memecoins, he concludes, reside on opposite ends of the spectrum.
